Background
Health
Action Schools (HAS) pilot project was initiated by AKU-IED in 1998 to promote
quality health education in primary schools through child-to-child approach
that empowers children to disseminate health messages to the community and at
home and links the learning place (school) with the living place (home and
community). The successful experience of the Health Action Schools Project and
other school health promotion activities since 1998 has built capacity in the
areas of action research, teacher training and materials development both at
AKU-IED and among the teachers of the health promoting schools, thus providing
a base for the formation of this association.
Beneficiaries and Participation
The participants comprises, mainly of teachers from

associated with Health Action Schools and NGOs associated with health promoting
schools in
The children and communities of the schools where
these teachers are working are the ultimate beneficiary of this association.
It is foreseen that PDTs working in PDCs could
also benefit by learning from the experiences of other participants through
networking.

Workers (HEALTH) is a forum which provides an opportunity to advocate for
health education to be taught in schools and eventually introduced in the
national curriculum.
Our Aim
Our
aim is to promote health education in schools as a vehicle to improve the
quality of education and health of Pakistani children, their families and
communities.
Our Objectives:
To develop awareness among students, teachers and
community members about the advantages of health education and promotion in
schools
To provide a necessary sharing experiences forum
for teachers involved in health education and promotion in their schools.
To provide a platform for AKU-IED to give support
to health promoting schools and to learn from their experiences and the impact
of the programme to guide future directions in health education and promotion
