Mathematics Association of Pakistan

 

 

Introduction

 

The Mathematics Association of Pakistan (MAP) was formed on July 4, 1997, after an Andover Dartmouth Institute (ADI) mathematics workshop under an International Academic Partnership (IAP) arrangement between Aga Khan Foundation and Phillips Academy Andover, USA.

 

Aims

 

·           To promote mathematics.

·           To promote mathematical education.

·           To provide a forum for mathematics teachers to meet, learn from each other and with each other.

·           To create effective linkages with similar organizations around the globe for sharing experiences with each other, while promoting the quality of mathematics education in the world.

·           To disseminate information and knowledge about new research findings and current pedagogy in the field of mathematics education.

·           To generate knowledge while initiating research projects according to contextual needs of schools.

·           To create a group of committed and informed professionals working towards improving the quality of mathematics education in Pakistan, keeping in view synergy amongst various sectors.

·           To create and implement innovative programmes for students, such as Pakistan Mathematics Olympiad, in order to promote the culture of doing and investigating mathematics among students.

·           To give input in policy dialogues on the status of mathematics education in Pakistan

Membership

a)      Teacher members: Mathematics Teachers and Teacher Educator teaching at any educational level are eligible to become member of MAP. Annual fee for Teacher member is Rs. 200.

b)    Institutional Members: Educational institutions / teachers’ training institutions or any other institution associated with promoting mathematics education can become on Institutional Member of MAP. Annual Fee for Institutional membership is Rs. 500.  

Regular Activities

 

MAP organizes:

·         Monthly workshops on the first Saturday of every month;

·         Special summer workshops; and

·         Mathematics Olympiads and Symposia.
